Pool Rules

1. Hours

    a. The pool schedule, including hours for swimming, diving and swimming instruction is determined annually by the Board of Directors. This schedule is published in the Greenbrook Gazette and is posted at the pool.  The schedule may be modified from time to time as indicated by weather, the number of persons using the pool or safety factors.
    b. General swimming is permitted only when lifeguards are on duty.  During such periods adult members and guests and children age 14 and older may swim.  Children who have reached their eighth birthday but who are not yet 14 years of age must be accompanied by an adult unless qualified for and wearing the Greenbrook emblem (“G” badge) in accordance with Rule 2 below.  Children who have not reached their eighth birthday must be accompanied by an adult.

    c. Children ages eight to seventeen must have an emergency card on file, updated each year, and must sign in at the guard bench.

    d. Periodically, all members will be required to sign in at the guard bench.

2.       “G” Badge
Children who have reached their eighth birthday and are not yet 14 will be tested for the “G” badge upon application by the parent to the lifeguard on duty.  The test will include knowledge of pool rules, the ability to tread water for two minutes, the ability to back float for 2 minutes and the ability to swim 25 yards unassisted without push-off.  There will be no exceptions.
3.      General
    a. The lifeguard on duty is in charge of the pool and is required to enforce these rules.  Any person failing to obey instructions from the lifeguard will be required to leave the pool area and may be suspended for up to 2 days.  In the event of suspension, a letter containing the reason for and length of the suspension will be mailed to parents.  When expulsion is resisted, illegal activity is observed or when behavioral problems are uncontrollable, the lifeguard on duty will be required to contact the Danville Police Department or the Association’s security company.  Lifeguard instructions will be obeyed promptly, but may be appealed to the Homeowners’ Liaison or to the Board of Directors.

    b. At a long blast of the lifeguard’s whistle, all persons will clear the pool to a distance of at least 5 feet from the edge.  No one will re-enter the water until the lifeguard indicates that swimming may resume.
