Pool
Rules
1. Hours
a. The pool schedule,
including hours for swimming, diving and swimming instruction is determined
annually by the Board of Directors. This schedule is published in the Greenbrook
Gazette and is posted at the pool. The schedule may be modified from
time to time as indicated by weather, the number of persons using the pool
or safety factors.
b. General swimming
is permitted only when lifeguards are on duty. During such periods
adult members and guests and children age 14 and older may swim.
Children who have reached their eighth birthday but who are not yet 14
years of age must be accompanied by an adult unless qualified for and wearing
the Greenbrook emblem (“G” badge) in accordance with Rule 2 below.
Children who have not reached their eighth birthday must be accompanied
by an adult.
c. Children ages eight
to seventeen must have an emergency card on file, updated each year, and
must sign in at the guard bench.
d. Periodically, all
members will be required to sign in at the guard bench.

“G” Badge
Children who have
reached their eighth birthday and are not yet 14 will be tested for the
“G” badge upon application by the parent to the lifeguard on duty.
The test will include knowledge of pool rules, the ability to tread water
for two minutes, the ability to back float for 2 minutes and the ability
to swim 25 yards unassisted without push-off. There will be no exceptions.
3.
General
a. The lifeguard
on duty is in charge of the pool and is required to enforce these rules.
Any person failing to obey instructions from the lifeguard will be required
to leave the pool area and may be suspended for up to 2 days. In
the event of suspension, a letter containing the reason for and length
of the suspension will be mailed to parents. When expulsion is resisted,
illegal activity is observed or when behavioral problems are uncontrollable,
the lifeguard on duty will be required to contact the Danville Police Department
or the Association’s security company. Lifeguard instructions will
be obeyed promptly, but may be appealed to the Homeowners’ Liaison or to
the Board of Directors.
b. At a long blast
of the lifeguard’s whistle, all persons will clear the pool to a distance
of at least 5 feet from the edge. No one will re-enter the water
until the lifeguard indicates that swimming may resume.
c. A short blast of
the lifeguard’s whistle indicates a hazardous condition. Look at
the lifeguard!
d. Persons having
a communicable disease, open sores or skin infections will not be permitted
to enter the pool.
e. Swimmers must wear
customary bathing attire. No cut-offs are allowed.
f. No food, gum, pop-top
or glass containers are permitted on the pool deck. Food may be consumed
on the grass areas, but all trash must be placed in the containers provided.
Smoking is not permitted.
g. Babies in cloth
or paper diapers are not allowed in either the main pool or the wading
pool.
h. Baby carriages,
strollers, wheelchairs, playpens, etc. must be kept at least 15 feet from
the pool edge.
i. The following acts
are prohibited:
1. Running on the
pool deck.
2. Conduct hazardous
to oneself or others, such as wrestling, ducking, chicken fights, pushing
or throwing others into the pool.
4. Sitting or hanging
on lane ropes.
6. Gum chewing while
swimming.
7. Unnecessary conversation
with the lifeguard or loitering near the lifeguard stand.
j. Artificial
flotation devices, balls, frisbees, etc. are not permitted in the pool.
Exception: the lifeguard on duty may allow children 5 years old and under
to use lifeguard approved flotation devices when accompanied by and under
the supervision of an adult. Snorkles, masks, goggles and swim fins
are allowed only at the discretion of the lifeguard. Instructional
aids may be used during approved swimming lessons.
k. Hourly rest periods
will be called by the lifeguard for approximately 15 minutes beginning
on the hour, every hour. During rest periods, the pool will be cleared
of all persons below 16 years of age, except babies in arms.
l. Swimming (other
than recovering from dives) is not permitted in the diving area (beyond
the 8 foot marker).
5.
Diving
a. Only one person
is allowed on a diving board or ladder at one time. Wait until the
proceeding diver swims clear before diving.
b. All dives must
be straight ahead off boards. Only one bounce per dive is allowed.
Sit-down dives are prohibited.
c. No person will
be permitted to hang from the underside of diving boards.
d. Back dives or flips
off the side of the pool are prohibited. No head first dives in the
shallow water are allowed. Cannon balls and can-openers are permitted
at the lifeguard’s discretion.
6.
Wading Pool
a. Children over
age 5 years are not permitted in the wading pool.
b. Children in the
wading pool are the responsibility of the parents, not of the lifeguards.
7.
Guests
Guests must be accompanied
by an adult member, who shall be responsible for familiarizing his guests
with pool rules and will be accountable for their conduct. The number
of guests is limited to one guest family per adult member at a time.
Volleyball
Court Rules
1. Sign-in is required
to keep the court for a team game.
2. No sign-in is required
for open play or volleying.
3. Use rotation
whenever possible.
4. The court is
for volleyball only.
5. No foul or offensive
language is allowed.
6. Guests
a. One guest family
per adult member at a time is allowed. Guests must be accompanied
by the adult member.
